hey all
seeing as how the engine is getting close to 270,000+ kms, i'm thinking of freshening it up a little - but not too sure where to start! its got a leak from the sump as well, and one from the timing chain tensioner, so its another kick to just get it all done at once, plus i was looking to get a head ported & polished, and a new cam. so - i just fired an email off to Kostecki Engine Centre or whatever the feck they are, just seeking a quote. any other places anyone recommends? i was thinking about doing it myself, as it looks like i'll be getting a wreck soon, so will have access to the engine from that, and will still be able to run around in mine whilst the other is being done... so if people can give me some thoughts on who to talk to/what to do/and especially costs, would be much appreciated! cheers

fraser, do it yourself mate, thats the only way you will learn, you seem fairly technicaly minded, so you should have no problems! besides that were here to help you 24/7
Engine reco places will charge out the a**.. As for cams/headwork im sure someone on here will be able to point you to someone in WA, i know heaps in NSW.. but wa..no. You could try Joe @ cresent motorsport for a head and cam package and get it mailed over too you. His good! |

lol technically minded - i'm a tax accountant haha! i'm prepared to give things a shot, on the basis i'll actually be able to get it done!

fraser DONT do it yourself...
hell scott would not even do it himself at his shop! best advice is get the wrecked/2nd engine sure take it apart yourself ie take the head off from the block and all acceseries send the block/crank to get rebuilt at were u wish and the head at were u wish and make sure it will all go to ghethere and work well then assemble yourself from there easy as you dont want to be calculating bearing clearances/tolrenaces to 10thousands of Inches... let the pros do it so much easier ohh get the bottem end balanced for more rpm

The I6 is an inherently torquey motor, personally i would build upon that trait. Cam and headwork to suit...

the sump leaks nicely, so i'm just a bit worried about the bottom-end on it thats it really a new cam, headwork, chip, vernier gear would be nice though!

Get a wreck and go for it on that engine! And frank, if you did up a motor with 10thou clearance on the main bearings id be wondering! Would want it down to about 4 or 5 thou id be thinking!

get your self a good workshop manual and some set of tools, making sure you have a torque wrench, feeler gage. actually the manual will tell you the important tools.
Hey bro. with the knowledge you got now, you can't go wrong. well there will be some obstacle along the way but think of what you'll gain when its completed. we'll probably bug you for advice 24/7 Go for it bro!
