In that article, it doesn't say to undo the nut after you tighten it to a specific torque setting and tighten up finger tight.

You should tighten the retaining nut to 30Nm while rotating the rotor. Once it's at 30Nm, undo the nut 1/2 turn and then tighten it a quarter of a turn (or finger tight or 1.5-4Nm if you have a small enough torque wrench). Rotate the rotor and then grab it at the 12 and 6 o'clock and give it a wiggle to see if there is any play. Spin the rotor again and recheck just in case. If there is no play, put the nut cover back on and split in.

Many years ago - just after getting my ED I had what I thought was a bearing noise - was a cyclic squeeking - very noticeable when reflected back off concrete walls - and seemed to be from the driver front but it was hard to tell. I could never duplicate the noise with car jacked up and spinning the wheels etc. I retightened the bearings several times and in the end actually replaced the bearings and nothing fixed it.

One day went for a drive with the family - squeeking making it's appearance as usual and pissing me off - and when we got to the place we intended to picnic for the day I kicked at the driver front wheel in frustration at still having the noise and it squeeked!! To this day there's a plastic ford wheel cover in the rainforest a hundred meters or so away from the parking area at a popular sightseeing spot...
