as that would explain it the tool i was using or was gonna use just bent and buckled and s**t it self..

Well today's progression is i got the sparkplugs out
WOW!!!! but any way i will be getting a replacement valve spring compressor tool tomorrow from one of the many well automotive places BUT i suppose i could go to any kind of "tool centre" to get one... i might have a quick run around tomorrow morning prior to going to work and at lunch..

Does any one know what kind of brand would be good for a tool like this that won't bend or brake (have a tool budget of about 75 dollars)

Before you used the valve spring compressing tool, did you give the spring retainers a light whack with a small hammer???? this loosens the grip of the collets in the retainer.

Brought a valve spring compressor tool the version that you use when the head is stil on the motor got all the springs and valves.

Pictures to come tomorrow

Queastion, How do you remove the rubbery seal type things were the valve stem sits?

They are Valve stem seals. And to remove them......with great difficulty. I use a set of spark plug pliers to get them off, and it is still difficult with them.
You could leave them on till you get it skimmed, then get the guy to remove them, probably has a you-beaut tool for doing it.

yeah i know all too well how crap those 40 dollar spring compressors are.

Heres a pic of the one i bought and used. Note the wire i wrapped around the mating surface to stop it blowing out on me. Also see the black tape i wrapped around it, to stop metal shavings from decorating my engine.

Still managed to do all 12 springs, but took 2 days and alot of flying springs and cursing

It took me a couple of hours again cursing and etc and getting the compressor to sit right etc etc got them off yesterday used a magnectic screwdriver to grab the colites, and after i just cleaned the head up some more and i got bored and started to polish a ED fuel rail i had laying around..

it is going to get a soda blasted on monday or sometime this week..

Um just another Quick Queastion the car that this head came off was blowing smoke some what i thought it was dodgy valve seals but the current seals look nice and "rubbery" no cracks or any damaage of any kind,, what other reason would of that car blown smoke from like dodgey rings or electronic related???

The rings could've been stuffed, or got cooked once and stuffed the pistons & rings, or the MAP sensor wasn't real good, or a cracked vacuum hose to the MAP sensor. Lots of reasons, thats just a few.

Also how do you get them round ring looking things out that are a tiny bit protruded or should i leave them for the people that will skim the head when i get around to organising them.

They will skim the minimum unless you tell them otherwise.

i lost interest after i found a few small cracks around the water ports, and i got rid of the ( a whole ten dollars for the "dirty" alloy) but i have the cam and rockers etc covered up and sitting in the shed who knows when i may use it or come in handy.

I got as far as getting it soda blasted, that is how i found this minor cracks. but i may get another "good" head to play with.
