Hi i have a ba mk2 xr6, and my car gives around the 400 mark kilometers a tank, and thats on 98, i drive suburban areas only, and hammer it maybe 4 or 6 times a week, and says 17.1/2 L per 100ks, is this normal??

Only if your car has been owned by a middle age couple.....
In all honesty, no it is not normal. My NC is sitting on 12.2L/100 around town, and I have no worries pulling 500k's to a tank.

A dig at the post you made in another thread. Driving style accounts for a large portion of fuel usage. Light throttle openings use more fuel than mid range openings that still allow low shift revs. Change your oxy sensor if you are really worried.

ba_xr6bw wrote: mid range throttle uses less fuel, doubt it mate....thanks anyway... no throttle doesn't always mean it's got good fuel economy. Let your car idle until you run out of petrol, most likely you'd have 68L/0km. Not sure how it would work if you let the car DRIVE (auto of course) from just idle on a flat surface...would still be poor economy I would think. I'm pretty sure your power band is mid range...so if you drive the car at mid range, your car is at optimum performance for fuel/air/power ratio...but I could be completely wrong here. Stock car of course.

How many kms on it?
Replace 02 sensor and see how that goes, then id dissconnect the battery for 3 hrs and connect it up again. This will reset ecu and relearn and im some cases reduces fuel consumption. Other things to look at is regular servicing with good engine oil; My rules of servicing; - Drop oil every 5000kms or 4 months with replacement oil filter (synthetic oil can stretch to 6 months) - Service trans every 20,000kms (if using a 5sp or 6sp auto trans with Synthetic oil then every 40,000-60,000 depending on driving style) Some people may say its abit excessive but i believe in taking care of the car it will take care of u and the overall cost isent difference isent that much...

I drove round one night when doing the good ol rubbish collection viewings and was looking for a balcony table (didnt find one) and flatmate found some antiques. Anyhoos, i used up a good amount of petrol cruising at 20kmp/h, falcons suck at very slow speeds consumption wise. Normal nice driving and i can get round 12L city driving and 7L highway per 100kms. How it is now, its sitting on 15L for the city as very heavy foot. my car sounds about the same and its got 350,000 on the clock, she sits at about 13-15l/100 around town and i have it in power mode most of the time so its not such a slug off the lights, and about 8 litres on the highway doin 80-100km/h

on the e series they both only take a few minutes each, the o2 sensor just unplugs and you unscrew it from your exhaust and do that backwards to install it again, and the fuel filter if its the same as e series just screws into the fuel line which only takes a few minutes to replace

They are easy tasks. I think BA have 2 x O2 sensors though, but not 100% sure. One before and after the catalytic convertor.
