Hi guys just want to confirm my suspesions if there is a blow by smell coming from the coolant resivor is that a sign of a cracked head? and if it is how long will the motor run like that? cheers

yes this happens ALL the time....
blow by smells like oil, and leaves oil stains. blow by is boost pressure from your turbo pressurising the crankcase and blowing out oil from everywhere. i'm sure it's your T66 garret just feeding some combustion fumage to your brain. an overheated heating system provides more pressure than normal oil pressure or naturally aspirated combustion therefore (during gasket failure) causing coolant to flow from cooolant galleries to oil galleries and chambers creating yummy creamish sludge in your oil.

..head gasket.
Blowing ehaust fumes into the water.. probably runs rough when you start it cold for a moment as well or idles a bit rough? Both my E-series have done gaskets this way. Put the metal AU Gasket in and you reduce your chances of another blown gasket by huge amounts.

Hi guys thanks for the responses yeah the car does idle rough when cold, blows a lot of water/mist out tail pipe. is there diffrent symptoms to a cracked head?

Pretty sure its the head gasket then, all the signs of exhaust air leaking into the cooling chambers. When the head gasket is done they usually pressure test the head for cracks anyways. Either way, the gasket gets done. If your not cashed up for the $800 + it would cost to get that fixed, you can try a bottle of that head gasket repair stuff. Cant think of the name of it right now but on the shelf its a clear bottle of stuff and you can see it has somehting in the bottom of the bottle, shake it up and you will see the brass filings in it. the brass becomes heated and finds its way into the craks and gaps in the head gasket, when it cools it sets. $12 Use as per the directions and this could see you right for a few months or even longer. I've used it twice now, had an NA 6cyl Fairlane running with it for more than a year. Most recently used it in my NL, which stopped me losing coolant, but have had the gasket done now.

Yeah ive budgeted $1000 to get it done so its proberly best of getting it done hopfully this will resolve the miss firing issues im having cheers

Hmmm.. My coolant looks quite yellow and my engine sometimes goes rough for about 1-2 seconds when started. It doesn't matter if it's hot or cold though.
Should I make a beeline to have this checked out? |

yer don't worry bout changing head gaskets just use additives.
same as if your engine oil goes yellow just drop it and use a flush additive then a stop leak additive.THATS WHY THEY MAKE ALL THOSE ADDITIVES! just to put engine reconditioners out of business. heard alot of c0cks swear by this method reckon it works great. good luck with that.

if you dont give a s**t about your engine use the additives but be careful because when it gives up the ghost the engine will be beyond repair...
