I wasn't really sure where to put this, but here goes.................
I am rather disappointed with the highway cruising fuel consumption of my BF F6 Typhoon! With the trip computer set to show instantaneous fuel usage, it struggles to get below 10l/100k on a flat road, with negligible wind, at 110km/hr (SA). This seems to be very similar regardless of running 95 or 98 octane fuel. The car just had a dealer service (it was bought post dealer service, too), with no reports of dud anything. I was semi-hoping that they said the O2 sensors were naff, but there was nothing from the mechanic. I even paid for a 'it's (apparently) due for' injector flush............... What ever that's suppose to be in a 2.5hr service. Yes, sarcasm . Is there anyone else who has a BA/BF XR6 Turbo/F6 that can chime in with their instantaneous fuel usage at highway speeds (preferable at 110km/hr)??? |

i had a look at my instantaneous fuel use today on my ba xr6t NOTHING below 11.5ish L/100km @ 110km/h unless i was going down hill
approx use as follows flat road 11.5 ish uphill 13-15 ish down hill at best 7 average fuel use for 100km is @11.5 and that's only after a long run yesterday, its usually 13.5+ to the 100 you are in a falcon sedan i guess with a curb weight of about 1800kg, with a 4L 6cyl engine with the turbo and lowered compression. really don't expect much more than 500km to a tank.

Cheers Robert_au.
That's along the lines of my thinking. Ford were pretty old school with their compression ratio with these engines, and despite their continuously variable valve timing, that shows when doing the boring stuff. Especially since they couldn't use any lean cruise modes like they use to in the earlier cars. Incidentally, my parents live in Hallett, so if you see a lowered, silver F6 cruising thru Jamestown, it's probably me. |

10L/100 is cgood for an F6.
If you want fuel mileage don't buy a Boosted Car. |

My stock n/a bf falcon returns an average of 8.5 - 9 L/100km on the highway with a boot full of crap and 11.5 around town. Everyone with an f6 or xr6t is complaining about bad fuel. I would say the low comp and driving off boost would lack the torque to get good economy.

From what I found, the NA engine has a 9.7:1 CR and the turbo engine 8.7:1 CR.
Not a huge difference, but I am surprised by the low CR of the NA engine. Ultimately I think I'll have to get off my a** and look at some wide band AFR numbers while watching some ECU data. |

Depending which website you look at the compression ratio is anywhere from 9.7 to 10.5 on the stock n/a barra. This website states they are 10.3:1

Still a shame that Ford dropped the CR so far with the turbo engine, but being able to run them on regular ULP was obviously a requirement for their marketing. It'd be great to build the engine with a 9.2 - 9.5:1 CR and tune with 12-13psi. Obviously 95 would be the minimum and 98 would let the engine give its all. |
