Hi guys,
I'm interested in doing a few mods to my BA MKII XR6, that won't negatively effect my fuel efficiency! So far I've done the Typhoon CAI. I noticed more low end power, which was great! I know extractors chew through more fuel... so I'm kinda steering away from getting those installed. I've been told that custom tuning my car will give it more power and better fuel efficiency. Is this correct? Or just people talking sh*t? Are there any other mods that can I do? Cheers, Brett |

Extractor's themselves will not cause fuel consumption to rise, it is you putting your foot down to release the new found power that does that.

A free flowing intake and exhaust, and then a good economy tune, you will gain power, and providing you resist the temptation to use it, will get better fuel economy

I honestly cant see a set of extractors upping your fuel economy, mine went down by at least 1L/100km. as mentioned above its your right foot that controlls the fuel economy.
If you dont want to use more fuel leave th bonnet closed and stick to the pretty things for the inside/outside.

Judging by your sig I don't think the design of headers you have would be focused on benefiting fuel economy? Not sure if the BA's have a similar manifold to e series tractor ones, but if so with a tune the right extractors should see an improvement (although going off the shelf should still see atleast a retainment of economy). I think if you look for an off the shelf design that has smaller primaries (still retaining mandrel bends if possible) you will be in luck.

Extractors aside, what other mods are worthwhile to gain power, but retain fuel economy?

A better intake (typhpoon extra intake) and a free flowing exhaust will get better fuel economy. but how long do you think it will take to recoup the fuel costs after modifiying? |

I was assuming he is just concerned over the economy but after better performance? I mean as you point out, you would have to be a moron to be spending the money purely to get better economy unless you did A LOT of k's. speaktobrett wrote: Extractors aside, what other mods are worthwhile to gain power, but retain fuel economy? Apart from getting a tune and what you have already done not much that is cost justifiable to the engine. Even without retaining economy cams/headwork/rebuild is going to start costing a lot. A manual conversion would make it quicker if it is a 4 speed?
