i have a 76 cortina that i have pulled the cast 6 out of and i'm looking to fit a later fuel injected motor (possibly from EA or EB or even XE - XF) but i'm not sure of the different dimentions of the motors in the particulary the leangth any info would be a great help |

hi
im not sure about ea/ed engine but the xe/xf will fit you only have to use a sump and oil pick up from a cortina x flow engine also you have to re locate your dip stick but there should be a spot on the block for it ..but otherwise the engines are pretty much the same.. i use to have a te cortina with a xf motor in it and it was a easy conversion but i didnt have efi i just used a holley manifold.. and the tc and td cortina is much the same .. |

s**t yeah, go for it. it can be done and isnt hard. for the amount of work involved to plumb up the primitive injection of a 250 you might as well go the 4.0L

6 x 19lb batch fired injectors vs 6 x 19lb batch fired injectors. very primitive indeed

L-Jetronic or LE-Jetronic on the XE/XF's were hardly engine management. i could go on but basically they had very simple strategies, had no active data and very limited fault control. they ran a vane air flow meter which were never reliable and had a high error rate. one backfire and the vaf was history which was a common thing with these systems because they relied on a sealed crankcase. the smallest oil leak on the crankcase would create an airleak thus lean running, thus backfire. this was a pioneering step by ford in australia into commercial EFI and back in it's day it worked and was comparable. doesnt hold a candle to todays technology. for the record, the XE and unleaded XF's ran a bigger injector than any E-series falcon.

Go the 4.0. If I didnt have so much cash tied up in crossflow parts, id probly fit an AU motor into my corty.

I thought that the XF EFI used the EEC-iv engine management...almost identical to the EA mpi...
I used to own an 87 XF 5spd MPI and the ECU said EEC-IV on it and the wiring loom looked almost identical apart from where the air mass senor plugged in???

for the record.. it wont fit due to the AU sump been cast alloy. = pretty hard to modify unles u have the propper welding equptment and skills where as the EA --> EL uses a Tin sump which you can easily modify..
