Hey all,
I want to get an adjustable fuel pressure regulator to try and get a better A/F ratio at WOT. At the moment it runs extremely rich, so I'd say theres some power to be had there. Thins is I have no idea what to look for. Seems as though most are made for blown cars, so whats something suited for N/A? Can anyone recommend a particular one? I'll probably get an A/F ratio gauge so I can tune it to a safe level. It shouldn't really effect normal driving much as the ECU should tune itself in closed loop won't it? One last thing, how are they adjusted and do they come with a pressure gauge so that you can see what pressure it is at? Cheers |

Although I can't help you voxace, I too would like to konw, as at a dyno day with a club, my car A/F ratio dipped to 10.5 far from the optimal 12.5. Can anyone help?

Although i cant recommend a specific reg (i use rising rate...), shouldnt be much difference between forced or n/a regulators. Try ebay i spose, or CAPA comes to mind. Unfortunately the a/f guages that run off the car's oxy sensor aren't terribly accurate when you move away from stoich. Not much chop for WOT im afraid. Closed loop should be fine as pulse width should be able to compensate for reduced pressure, which EEC will see through HEGO. Cheers Usually just a pot screw with a scale on it (i.e. dial in pressure). Would probably need your own pressure gauge to meter actual pressure.

umm if it is rich at WOT then a rising rate reg would not benifit as it would have more pressure and hence more fuel and be richer again?

Nah he's looking at adjustable i.e. wants to reduce pressure in the rail. Rising rates are mostly non-adjustable and only work when there's boost in the manifold (altho can prolly get them to operate on vac).

Cheers, thanks for the help. I'll probably scrap the A/F gauge idea then.
So anyone know a particular one yet, I'm still a bit lost there? Also would like to hear of people's experiences with them. Thanks. |

Malpassi have 2 regs.
one that rises 1:1 and another that rises 2:1 There about $200 It's not the best way to make a good A/F ratio, because in doin this it will change the whole map, no just trhe WOT Buy a EMS

Hehe, I wish I could buy an EMS (maybe I will one day!)
A little less fuel pressure would do it good over the whole map I reckon, but from what I've heard the ECU compensates and gets the A/F ratio back to where it was in closed loop anyway. I'm assuming 2:1 is for some extreme fueling?? |

I forget if it's all in PSI or kpa or whatever, let's assume it's all PSI for argument's sake. A 2:1 rising rate will increase pressure in the fuel rail by 2psi for every 1 psi increase in manifold pressure. Me? I'm using a 12:1 rising rate. Mwahahahahahaha. Probably explains why i can watch fuel gauge drop when under boost. So when im at 6psi boost in the manifold, rail pressure is up 72psi (or kpa, whatever units they use) over standard pressure. As SVO said, it's a stop-gap measure. Ideally i should be running large injectors (36lb or above) and have a programmable ECU/EEC to make sure the pulse width is correct for the tune. Problem: I'm a tight a**. So i cant have injectors that flow enough at standard fuel pressure. The solution: increase fuel rail pressure to get more fuel through the smaller injectors. It's not too bad because CAPA have tuned my ECU to live in these conditions. But yeah - not ideal. I wouldnt go the EMS route at all. EEC is a fine computer, just not easy to remap. Only needs replacing when you get to SVO's level of modification.

Meh, is the EEC really that great. Half the people on here are complainign about idle issues and excessive fuel consumption, and half the time the reasons can never be found.
Seems as though aftermarket ECU's do a fine job, with good increases in fuel economy and power for even mildly modified engines. (Just wish I could afford one!) |

The only advantage of an aftermarket ECU is programmable interface and data logging. If Ford Australia weren't such pricks we'd all be driving around with tweecers and laptops to control our mighty EECs!
