hey guys, ive been getting so frustrated lately about my car - as the history of it goes.
About 6 weeks ago i jumped in my car an 00 AU2 ute to go to work and it wouldnt start, cranked and cranked no start, got it towed to a mechanic, and then it starts bah. right.
It was driving fine till earlier this week. stopped at parents. went to leave. same deal. got it towed to the mechanics, but this time no start, just so you know as this may be relevant, i had just filled the tank and added a bottle of nulon total fuel care b.s. whatever.

anyways my initial thoughts are fuel pump, so they changed it. and bravo it starts so i go pick it up and drive off, 200m down the road i slow to a roundabout and it stalls, i pull over and start it back up, didnt really want to start but eventually did, i took off and reached a steady 50kph and the thing starts surging power up and down like spluttering, stops when i gave it the boot, but slowing and then stalls.

So next - fuel filter, they changed it but did not change the out come

old mate mechanic mentioned regulator - but now public holidays etc no work. im also thinking the tank might need to be drained and flushed and that perhaps the additive made my fuel bad ??
any thoughts would be great

The regulator would be my next move. If your not getting enough pressure your injectors won't work properly. The reg is easy to change its mounted on the back end of the fuel rail. You could have it done before your mechanic opens his shop up again.

connect a fuel pressure gauge and see what it does - it could be the pump.
Next time it stops and wont start get someone bash the bottom of the tank while your trying to start it and see if that makes it go, if it does then replace the pump

when it stalls, does the tacho drop straight to 0?
it could be a problem with crank angle sensor, along with many other things

Hey mate, i know this is a lil off topic... but sorta not at the same time.
well anyways ill get to the point now...

I've got a "01 AuII XR6 VCT Ute and i got similiar but not the same problem...
400Km to 70L of fuel - acceleration is inconsistant (average at the best of times) - plus some other things... but if you find anything out that is a common problem regarding fuel for the AU's could you post it... thanks mate...

ok some good news, finally, car is fixd and all better, turns out the purge was rooted, so they replaced it, but the car had to go to the ford dealer to tell the computer to make it work properly. and as far as 400km to the tank - your lucky, i think i get about 300 - 350km
thanks guys
