The car has started making a funny noise lately, it sounds likes its making a really loud sucking noise.
Seems to be coming from the intake side of the motor. The idle has also gone really lumpy. I havent been able to find any loose hoses or anything. Temperature and fuel econ and everything seems to be fine, and i am not really sure what it could be. Has anyone got any kinda idea what it could be? I will be taking it to a mechanic soon anyway as it is just about up for its service. I just want to have a poke around first. Cheers, Nic |

whilst the engine is running, run engine oil along the joints where the intake manifold flanges meet the head and check to see if any bubbles form indicating a leak.

I would look at the underside of the intake manifold under the throttle body, where you should find a vacuum connection with two ports. It is not unknown for the little cap that covers the unused port to fall off, or be blown off due to a backfire. The little cap is a b**ch to replace, but I found it best to remove the air-box, and get at it that way

okay cool, i will try and pull out the intake piping later today and have a poke around.
Will a can of WD40 work instead of carby cleaner stock standard? And ill look for that cap too thanks creeture. And naughty falcon... alas... no its not that! |

Whats with you guys wanting to put oil on your engine? It will just make a mess and because its so think its not going to work as well as something like carby cleaner (which will clean your engine).

well i got out the WD40 yesterday arvo, sprayed it around where the inlet mainfold meets the head, the joins in the BBM, all the vaccumm hose joins that i could find and nothing made any difference.
I was listening for the revs like you said stockstandard, and nothing made a difference. I might just have to get the mechanic to sort it out. The sound definately seems to be coming from the front right (as you look at it from the front of the car) of the motor. All the belts and pulleys seem fine too... |
