Ok, i had my car going for the first time in a year last week, everything was good then something shorted and all the interior lights flash when the key is turned and it now wont start.

We checked the fuses they seem ok

When i try and turn the car over there is a noise coming from the fuse box area near the battery a sort of fast "ticking" noise.

Any suggestions on what to do?
If you need more info ask

flat battery. I am only saying this becuase of that fast ticking sound you are describing. After one year your battery probably isn't holding its charge.

Go and charge it up or at least jump start it and tell us how you go.

have you checked all the fuses in the engine? not just visually but with a multimeter / test light?

dpesnt sound right that a flat battery would do that, if it was running then having a flat battery shouldnt cause a real problem

what were you doing to it to make it short out?

are all the wires coming from the battery/alternator properly insulated and not going to earth?

Havent checked with a multimeter, just by sight, any ideas as to which fuse it could be?

Dad was in the drivers seat when it shorted last week, i was standing at the engine, all that was done was the engine was started and run for about 15 seconds then dad stopped it said there was a short and that was that.

have you tried the freshly charged battery?
when your dad stopped it how did he know there was a short?
might have to check the relays in the engine bay too. can you hear the fuel pump priming?
