Hey,

Lately when I rev my eb above 3000rpm there is this god awful really loud noise (sounds like the horn is constantly on). The noise stays for a good 10 to 15 secs after it starts. It sometimes also does it after i have driven for bout 30 mins and then go park in a shopping centre (it makes the noise as I park and then also once I start the car again).

My initial thoughts are powersteering (although i got a new reco pump bout 3 months ago). Also I think it might be brake related as when I push the pedal in the noise sometimes stops.

Could be vacuum related too i suppose. Has anyone else had this problem or can point me in the right direction?

THanks :)

spray wd-40 on the belts, take it for a spin above 3000 and if it doesn't make a sound, thats your problem.

Yeah me too, that's why I mentioned it!
And electrical load will effect it obviously, eg. brake lights, indicators, aircon...
Will do it after starting because battery will be charging hard due to starter motors high load.
Cold weather will make it worse as well.

Err, I'd skip the lubricant and try some 'Beltgrip' instead.
Look for it in the boots of supercharged cars

yeh brakes are definetly fine. Its not the normal belt slipping noise however it does make sense if it was one of them. I'll re tighten them and see how it goes. Thanks for your help guys!

MY 1991 EA IS THE NEWEST CAR I'VE EVER OWNED...
I DIDN'T KNOW THAT YOU HAVE TO DO THE ALTERNATOR BELT ( THE FLAT GROOVED TYPE ) UP VIOLIN STRING TIGHT. WITH OLDER VEE PULLEY TYPE YOU WOULD WEAR OUT THE BEARINGS .

SO IT MIGHT NOT BE TIGHT ENOUGH.

ANOTHER LONG SHOT IS YOU MIGHT HAVE TOO MUCH FLOAT ON YOUR MAIN. MAIN BEARINGS WEAR OUT CAUSING THE CRANK TO MOVE FOR AND AFT. POSSIBLY UNDER ACCELERATION IT MOVES BACK CAUSING NOISE AND VICE-VERSA UNDER BRAKES!

TRY LEAVERING BEHIND THE HARMONIC BALANCER AND SEE IF IT MOVES.
