Hey Guys, i recently bought this car off my foreman. I am 5 months into my mechanics apprenticeship, and am looking forward as to when i get my opens, what i will need to do now, before a rebuild.
I also just found out, that new laws allow turbos as long as the power to weight ratio ain't above 125KW/T. now my car already has the hurricane extractors and i think a 2.5 custom exhaust system, not flashed yet. So basically my few questions are, is it possible to put a turbo on it now, to keep it under that, and on another footnote, a intake plenum for it before flashed, rough guess on kw increased by? what stuff would i do to get ready for putting in a turbo and having it strong enough for a big one? and a final question, buy a second hand 4.0 engine and put forged pistons etc in a year or two time, or rebuild mine when i get to opens. |

Why not keep the BA as is and find a engine on eBay and slowly performance build it, on apprentice wages you won't do much to your car so I would by bits and pieces for the engine and work on it in your spare time, be good practice too

yea thats what i was thinking, i found some BA Falcon 2002 - 2005 engines for like 300, then like another 450 for postage, but it seems pretty good, and something like that which i can add to over time, forged pistons etc.
Though forged pistons when you go the say for xr6 turbo with different mm measurements for the pistons, and i can't seem to find any con rods or anything for it. |

Yea sounds good, just when i heard that you can have turbos in your car upto 125KW/T i was wondering if i could put a turbo in running quite low etc, so it passes

You couldn't have a turbo anyway, 125kw per tonne = 1.7 t x 125 kw is 212 kw max, that's not much for a ba. Would be a cam and exhaust I would think.

Id like to know how they can work out the 125kw per tone once the car has done some work to it. There not going to take the engine out and put it on an engine dyno. The best way to get by with still doing mods is keep the exhaust as quiet as you possibly can.

Waste of money fitting a Turbo for an 11% increase. You will have between 140 to 160 RwKw. Pppfffffttttttttt, waste of money for the cost. |

How about you don't mod the car too much, reduce the likely hood of wrapping the car around a tree & start saving for a house?
I have seen so many threads on here from really young people that think because its fordmods, we must all have 400kw cars. Then they start a thread stating that they've f**k up their virtually stock car by hitting a gutter, roo, around about, etc etc.
