its means the transmission sticks in 3rd. it will go into LHM if ur fluid is to low, the the box over heats, or slips to much. thats why a hi stall can cause this, the excess slip causes the box to either heat up a bit more, but in terms of the stally's i believe its because it detects the box is slipping to much, and does it to try save the box

yeah I knew what LHM was.. just didn't know why a hi stall would cause the box to go into the mode.. now I do

LOL.. I had a 3000rpm histall.. it was a trans killer in the end, cooked the fluid rather bad even with a big cooler.
So I got a custom 3500+rpm one made and fitted to the BTR.. now THATS a fun Histall! Yeehaa!

I'm having no end of trouble with mine going into LHM. But checked ECU codes today and got an error (691) about the S1 solenoid. Which one's that?

Mind you the entire BTR box was basically rebuilt around it anyhow. The catch now is I cant go back to smaller stall.. the box is now customised to suit this individual stall only.

You still having LHM issues? It's the only thing stopping me from getting a histall.. reliability is most important for me |

Nope, it turned out to be a loose connection on the gearbox with the big round plug.

for the poeple that are still wondering how a hi-stall works... basically, any1 can correct me if im wrong.. but at the lights, if u put the breaks on and rev it up, it will rev up to the 2500, or 2800 (depends what hi-stall u get) without losing traction, compared to what, 2100 or so without and the wheels start going.. so ur up higher in ur power range for when u launch
when your driving normally at say 20-40km/h and punch it, the car will automatically kick up to 2500 or 2800 right into that power range, so ur not losing time waiting for the revs to get up there basically when u get a 2500 or 2800, ur eliminating the lower revs when u punch it or stall it up, its putting u straight into that power range |

No... they're not that "literal". You cant look at the RPM rating as being the specific point at where the torque converter engages. If you sat there with the brakes on and slowly increased revs... it'd probably do the same thing as the standard one does. Look at davey's post from 24/706... daily driving is basically unchanged. It's when you NAIL the throttle that they come into their own. The converter will slip up until a certain point (2000rpm in Davey's case) and then "catch up" (stall) at the stall point. Therefore, you're up in the power range before the torque converter really starts to stop slipping.
