The best would be to use an AU gasket. Saying that I think the graphite ones are good. I've been using them on my turbo EF with no problems.
Good luck. |

For the same price you can have the AU genuine one which is better. Graphites are an improvement over the fibre ones but.

I heard the graphite ones are good for engines on gas, not sure if its the case but its what the old man used on his Gas Researched 350 clevo.

For what its worth 100,000 k's ago i put in a Mono torque VRS kit and so far so good no head problems. Im thinking thing the biggest problem with the E series head problems was a simple thing called "Head Bolts" they tended to either stretch or snap. Now snapping is an abvious sign of failure but to actually see a bolt stretch is a little harder espacially if the test sample was better than the production one that we the customers copped, so maybe Ford or the engine plant in Geelong spent most of the $40 million of research on the gasket design when it was maybe only 25% of the contributing factor and head bolts was the other 75%. I do believe the pre AU head bolts dont exist but pre AU head gaskets do. So after all that Graphite head gaskets with post AU head bolts maybe just fine together....
Ok i just got home from the pub after lots of booze so please dis-regard my dribble!!! |

I have a Graphite head gaskets on my EF due to recomendation from the man that did my head. I was not just some joe blow customer or he would not have cleaned, reseated the valves all for the $55 price of facing the head. He did quote $350 to do a full reco on it.

Have a talk to a few engine reconditioning/machining places - they do this stuff for a living, and should be able to give you some good advice.
Educate yourself first though (so you can catch them out if they're crapping on): http://www.aa1car.com/library/gasket_failure.htm http://groups.google.com.au/group/alt.f ... 906c1edd3f Although a lot of people will tell you to go an AU MLS gasket, you should be enlightened as to what else is out there, and what the trade offs are between them from the above links. I'm not an expert by any means, but I hope this helps.
