Hey ya'll, I just put on a growler intake on my XR6 n/a..just wondering what induction noise should be expected from it? Like, the sound it makes is startlingly loud and agressive, more so than I was expecting. I was expecting just a louder hiss of air, but this is an actual growl! Wondering if this is the sound it's suppose to make, or have I done something wrong lol
cheers.

sounds about right, so you only fitted the intake for the sound? :?

of course not :P better fuel economy and performance..though I know that the perfomance part won't really come until I get the full exhaust and tune. Just wasn't expecting that much noise from it is all lol

The loudness will settle down a bit after the engine gets used to the extra airflow. At the moment its trying to compensate for the extra air flow hence why you hear the roar but once the ecu adjusts for the air/fuel ratio it will settle down and wont make a noise that loud anymore. Dont worry you will still hear the air coming in but it wont be a roar as it first was. If you want a roar continuously fit a supercharger or turbo on. :D

do you have any idea how long it takes for the engine to get use to the extra air?

Depends...

How long is a piece a string?

Serious though, depends on how you drive and how far you drive. My ECU learns a change after 50-100kms generally but I drive the car to how I want it to settle.

:) On a side note - related purely to intake sound issues - many years ago I had drilled a bunch of extra 9/16 inch or so holes in my ED airbox (had also replaced the restricted TB to airbox duct with an opened pipe) - and discovered that at full throttle at a certain rpm the engine would start to sound exactly like a turbo as she developed a whistle thru the holes (pretty much put paid to wan^%rs who were saying the std airbox inlet was big enough for a start) - by covering a few holes the sound could be made to come in sooner. Hard to convey properly here, but I have to admit it made a terrific effect - was not too loud at all but very distinctive - was fun to come alongside when overtaking and THEN plant it whence the whistle would cut in - bit like Mad Max pulling the nitro knob and flooring it - ah, to be young and foolish 8-)
