Yeah, but if you have the boost spiking problem, it's alot worse to have it go into limp home due to overboost when you're trying to overtake a B-Double cattle track on a country highway then the fuel consumption and initial d**k around with the reflash :D
My dads got a turbo...
Initially it was s**t, then they d**k around, and after about 3 visits back, it's all good.
Alot better then overboosting itself into limp home and having it miss and carry on like my old XF.

Mine did that the other night, I think, except it's not a turbo at all so no idea how. Car took off in third, wouldn't change no matter what I did (no kickdown, no manual shifting with the tiptronic) and the gear selector light on the dashboard was flashing. Few minutes later, seemed to be all good. Is that what your dad's car had? How did they fix it in the end?

That sounds like a problem limited to the auto box.
Mate of mines XT was playing funny buggers with reverse a while ago, taking ages to actually select it.
My old mans car was fixed by the software reflash that ford had created to fix the problem.
I don't know if there is any such fix for yours or other gearbox problems.
Ford dealer would know of any service bulletins on it.

the hardware is not really out there for the 6 cyls to make much more then 185rwkw....

there is alot of custom work and R&D to be done if some one wants that much power. From what i've seen lately most people are not willing to modify their engines beyond the point of what big name work shops have already developed.. the atitude of the car modifier has changed alot in the last few years.

A few names have poped up recently that seem to be heading new directions with the I6 and it's good to see. who knows, it may inspire/grab the attention of the right people and we may just see a few big advances on what we can do or buy for these engines. Though I can see the cost of development being a big factor on we this gear become available.

I think 185rwkw would be quite achivable I have found that the trick with these engine is not to overkill any one area. The mods have to be done in like a total package way

well its a very touchy topic talking any figures in a controlled series but a good motor would be in the 45O to say 520 nm bracket

How about a bog standard BMW M3 - 3.2 straight six with 252kw out of the box.. awe inspiring stuff. TVR also has a 4.0L straight six that makes around 300kw as well. There's plenty of impressively powerful NA engines out there.

Get the 4.0 to rev to 7 grand and it'd make some serious power too... Does anyone know why the limit is as it is ? and what would be required to overcome that ? Forget $$$ this is purely hypothetical

Very long stroke and average valvetrain, especially pre-BA.

Those twin cam conversion heads that were avaliable for the 4.0l where spose to rev alot harder easier.

revs aren't the problem. it cylinderhead flow.

it's set so low becuae it has to last alot of km as a reliable car.

to over come it you only need to accept that it will need rebuilding every few years. and you'd need to life all the parts.
