thinking of relocating battery to boot, main reason (throwing ideas around) is to help mild tyre scrubbing on fronts, both inner and outter edges of fronts scrubbing a bit??

any ideas.. dont want to get camber kit just yet before experimenting a bit.

its a known fact that once a tyre starts to wear you cant stop it but you can slow the wear down

Don't turn the front wheels while the car is stationary. More air pressure.

If you have other reasons for putting the battery in the boot, consider running a thick red wire from the starter motor, then cable tied underneath the car, then up through a rubber grommet underneath the rear seat, then across to the drivers side and over the top of the rear shock mount, and into the boot through the hole after the shock mount . . . earth the battery . . .

I have done this but still don't have a camera.

The first time i went through the chassis rail and into the body just after the ecu, this was okay, but the second time i went under the body until i got to the rear seat, and this was much easier and better.

For extra protection from voltage loss and physical harm i put clear hose over the cable from the starter motor into the body. I think it was 1/2" hose and just fit, the cable was 240A rated, pretty thick. Otherwise that corrugated plastic conduit could be used.

Of course some attention also needs to be placed on the front battery leads after the battery has been removed.

Will moving the battery really make enough difference to your issue to warrant it?

skidder:: No it probably wont. I've just been reading too many extreme ford magazines :D

Like i siad, just throwing ideas around.

I think If you cant feel much change in handling when you take your spare tyre out, then you wont be able to feel any change by moving the battery.

As i mentioned i don't see moving the battery as the solution to the guys front tyres scrubbing.

Moving the battery has a number of effects, some of which are below:

TRACTION
I can easily detect a difference on dirt roads, which means tarmac would be similarly better as well. This is especially so for my car as i have a large battery in the boot.

HEIGHT
With the battery removed from the front and the large battery in the boot, the car is dead level or a bit lower at the back, put a heavy toolbox in the boot as well and the car is 5mm lower at the back, it's quite noticeably lower at the back then. By rights in this scenario coil spacers should be fitted to the back, or the front coils cut a tad.

HANDLING
I can feel the difference in handling, the front is quicker to steer and the rear feels a bit slow to start then gathers a mild pendulum. Firm rear shocks would sort that out (and firm front shocks are needed to match). As long as you can handle a slight shift in the balance towards oversteer, the car should handle better overall.
