I reckon keep it auto for now. Get all the other cheaper stuff done first and if you still like the car and going to keep it for longer, do the manual change over.

Hate to say it...but our generation tend to change and upgrade a lot in a short term to keep up with society...mainly to impress others. Not saying you're one of them, but you might just decide to sell it later on to get an updated Falcon and if you do go that path, you would have saved yourself about $1500 (assuming it's not a DIY).

I was pretty much like that. Was going to keep the car forever the first year I had it, 2 years later I thought about selling it to get a newer Falcon...only to spontaneously buy a house instead. So now I am stuck with this car and I like it every bit more...until something breaks.

Hey wazza,

Here's my estimates at Aussie costs. You can sometimes get great deals on eBay too.

1) $400-$500 headers and $250-$300 sports cat-back. Many say a hi-flow cat won't do much, but I would do it anyway - do it right the first time. Not sure what it costs
2) $40 BA induction tube/3" to airbox with $50 XR8/6T snorkel and $30 Simota panel filter. Pod-in-box is more ($190 from JMM). $300 SS Inductions Big Mouth or $100 F6 lower snorkel
3) regrind existing cam $120 or buy a second-hand XR6 cam $50-$100
4) $300 skim head for compression and 3-angle valve grind, just found out all AUs have the larger exhaust valves. mild port&polish - was quoted NZ$700, so probably A$500
5) $300 under-drive crank pulley
6) $120 J3 chip and some dyno time (likely $500); or you can get a decent gain with a custom pre-programmed chip from TI Performance for $190
7) $250 send the factory convertor out to be hi-stalled - if you can remove and reinstall the convertor yourself. Otherwise, a lot more. Also, a $115 adjustable electronic shift kit might help - but I found that my AU XR6 didn't need it.

Spending what I have done on my AU2 I could have had an 11sec XR6T with change. But I never did my AU up for resale value. I couldn't care less about resale as I don't intend on selling it, it will probably be handed down to a family member someday. It did it mainly for the sleeper appearance and having something a bit unique. No one, expects an AU futura to be fast....no one. Seeing the look on peoples faces when you pass them is priceless.
