If it's a six, these cars are an easy way to get some decent performance for not too much money, if you own the car obviously the "special" looks of AU's suit you too, so where is the problem?

Cars are always a waste of money.

If you want to do it, go nuts.

Do you need your "mates" and an internet forum to decide for you?

no dont put a Tseries kit on it.. be like me puttin a GT kit on my xt.. totally lame.
just make it look nice and neat and power it up under the bonnet with a snail and the sorts.
if you dont mind the look of a AU and can live with it then you will be gettin better power to weight in a AU as opposed to a BA. a couple hundred kilos.

Whatever you do, you won't get your money back when you sell it. So, if you're gonna do it up, you're doing it only for your own driving pleasure.

A lot of people bag the AU, and it may be a face only a mother could love (esp Series 1), but it's grown on me. You can make it look a bit meaner if you have an AU2/3 bonnet and grill, with the grill painted body colour. Or you can swap for an AU2/3 XR6/8 front end (if you don't mind the "eyelashes").

For go, you're not gonna beat boost - but it costs. If you want to get some more go on a smaller budget:
1) headers and sports cat-back (Pacemaker/JMM and Lukey/Redback get good reviews), maybe hi-flow cat
2) BA induction tube/3" to airbox with XR8/6T snorkel and Simota/K&N/etc panel filter or pod-in-box (can go SS Inductions Big Mouth or F6 lower snorkel if you want still more cold air)
3) Get a new cam (eg Wade) or regrind existing one
4) If the head is coming off, skim it for compression, go larger XR6 exhaust valves, 3-angle valve grind, maybe mild port&polish
5) under-drive crank pulley
6) J3 chip and some dyno time
7) If you are dropping the trans, send the factory convertor out to be hi-stalled (2500rpm is probably a good balance, 3000rpm will wake the auto up big time).

Just noticed your gallery pic. You've got the makings of something good there. Just lowering it would make it look pretty sweet - lows or superlows, depending on the slopes you've got to negotiate.

I know the front ends can be swapped, as there was a dealership selling "new" AU XR6 wagons. They swapped the fronts themselves, but I don't know what's involved. Otherwise, a body colour (like the SR) or satin black grill might do the trick.
