Hey all, just having trouble removing some head bolts. Just wondering what people have done to remove the ones that dont want to leave.

Don't release the tension on them on the first pass, just crack them. Use a hex (6 sided) impact socket with a beaker bar or a length of pipe. If you have any stubborn ones give them a sharp tap on the bolt head.

As above. Dont use a normal socket as it will round off the head then you will have to weld a bolt onto the old one to remove. You may find the exaust side to be the hardest to "crack"

Loads of CRC and leave overnight, but as been before, DO NOT try and use double-hex sockets, go for single-hex and try and keep it as straight as possible.

CRC wont do anything that the oil already hasnt. Its the actual thread in the block so theres no point of waiting over night. |

yeah basicly an impact socket and a realy long breaker bar, with and extra half a metre of pipe on the end of it.
or an impact gun of suitable size (3/4inch drive) |

and when there is no option and you have rounded the head off, ussualy AU's have this problem.
Get a tierod end locking nut, hit it onto the top of the headbolts hex, crank whatever welder you have to highest output and weld the nut to the bolt head, make sure its fused. Use a socket to crack the bolt, normal should be fine. This works a treat. bailed me out countless times on overly difficult headbolts, this is a last resort and always works. Muff |

i hate hearing the snap sound, but like twason, joolz & muffy said just take it slow with a breaker bar and plenty of load. high tensile bolts dont like being hammered.
crc prolly wont penetrate that far down but worth a try.

and when welding a nut or anything on there if it wont work and you dont need the head because it really is f**k get out a 4 inch grinder and cut off the head off the bolt works a treat if the head is to never be used again

I used a double hex socket without rounding it off
 ...but I think i am going to get myself a hex socket when putting it back together.
As twason said, don't release all the tension on the first pass. If you already released the tension on the first pass on one side, re-tension the bolts to level out the head and that way it won't be angled causing other bolts to be harder to remove. Hopefully you got it sorted. phong =P~

Get a big long a** breaker bar. I mean long. The one i bough is 50-60cm long. Cost me $80 but well worth it.

I think the problem i have is that it allready had a head bolt snapped, i saw it when i lifted the rockercover.
