Hi guys,
I see in all the literature it says to torque head bolts to 40nm, then 90 degrees.... But I heard that 40, then 80, then 110 may be better? What say you? |

There is two different specs depending on the car and I'm not sure what made them change...
These being the genuine ford manual specs... EA-EL (I think) were 40Nm + 90deg AU was 30Nm + 120deg If you are saying 40Nm then to 80Nm then to 110Nm that isn't right? You have no units beside your numbers though so I'm not sure what you're saying? When I fitted the AU VCT head to my falcon I used 30+120 Cheers, Tim

Na you can't do that with TTY bolts... They don't work like that...
You do them to the correct torque and then you stretch them past their yield point and this can only be measured by the degrees... Not with Torque... For them to do that they must be using Non TTY products maybe that includes such things as stud kits or just high tensile bolts? Cheers, Tim

ahh... see in my mechanics guide to cars, the section for headbolts states the specific info of :
for head bolt the exact amount to do them up is f**ken tight.

and an angular torque gauge, super cheap has em for $15, good investment as there are a few other bolts that use TTY fastening.

If you are using a composite head gasket, use 40Nm + 90 degrees. If you use the AU MLS head gasket, use 30Nm + 120 degrees.
