Hi. Sorry to do this.
Can somebody link me to a thread containing what I need to do to change my headgasket in my eb. I wanna use it as a guide I roughly know what im doing. But search function dosnt work on my mobile. Also for the sake of it anything I've missed off the what to buy list. Head gasket (au metal one apparently is the goods) New head bolts And that's it right? I can use the workshop so ill have all the tools needed. I was thinking of replacing the springs and lifters aswell. Good idea? P.S. Anyone with a good condition head from a e series should sell it to me cheap so I can get it machined and just do the whole job in one day. |

Read the thread or skip to page 10 and download the pdf file. Also give wreckers a call or ebay e-series heads...they are pretty much everywhere. I'm surprised the above thread still hasn't been stickied...

THANKS!
Sorry I gotta ask all the time. This phones a s**t head. Dunno about an au head. They use different head bolts don't they? |

no lol they all use the same headbolts.
only thing you need to do is run the eseries rocker gear and cam, not the au one (different rocker ratio). its all off the head anyway. I have an EF head here actually as well, has a few thou shaved off it. When you do it be sure to use hylomar on both sides of the gasket. |

How much do you want for the ef head. Freashly shaven?
Hymolar...? Like a sealent? Also I've managed to confuse myself. Can I get the head off without removing all the rocker gear. |

few thousand k's on the head since it was decked, 50bux.
hylomar is a spray on sealant, yes. You can leave the rocker gear on the head - you still need to lock up the cam sprocket though. |

That's the sealent you can use with metal gaskets hey.
Sounds ok price man. Resurface is 38 so why not. When I get my shopping list all sorted out ill send you a pm. Headbolts are about $80 and gaskets about $60 not trade price right? |

never use hylomar on a head gasket. Especially MLS ones, they have sealants on them that hylomar can interfere with. Also ACL recommend that if you do use Hylomar then the head needs to be re tensioned, which you cant do with torque to yield bolts

You should get a VRS gaskit set, has all the gaskits & seals you will need to do the job, not overly expensive either. They include new valve stem seals, which are a good idea to change if your going to play with new springs.
No sealant on the headgaskit, it's not a copper race car gaskit! New head bolts are a must as everyone says! A VRS set is a good suggestion, at a minimum you will need the head gaskit, and probably the intake & exhaust manifold gaskits. The head is heavy enough to lift off with the manifolds removed, unless you have an engine crane! A bottle of your fav drink or a slab, and a mate to help you work on the car & drink the piss. Cheers ToranaGuy

Ok. So no hymolar.
Forgot about inlet and exhaust gaskets. Ill grab them too. Valve stem seals hard to do? Luckily we have a engine crane at work so sweet with that. Krisisdog- does that ef head have the valves in it still? |

If its only getting the head swapped a VRS kit is a waste.
For the extra $150 odd over the MLS gasket alone for a generic VRS kit with a craddy gasket its definitely not worth it. Try finding a VRS gasket kit with a MLS gasket from anywhere but Ford ($350+) Hylomar is a debatable issue, but if there are multiple turbocharged high hp E series Falcon owners who suggest to use it, I'm going to side with them. That and I've never had an issue with using it, and I've done a few heads now. MLS gaskets dont have any sealants on the surface, which is where the Hylomar is sprayed. MLS gaskets need much better head and block surfaces over the std gasket type as they do not compress and 'soak up' any imperfections. |
