Hey guys,

First post here..... been in the shadows for awhile.

I have a 96 EL Fairmont. Thats started to drink coolant. I fill it to the max mark and within a week its all gone. Ive also noticed that when i started it in the morning it doesnt idle right. Jumps between 800rpm - 1000rpm then it will settle in. I havent been driving it since saturday in fear that ill make it worse.

Took it for a drive tonight just to make sure it would run. Heaps of white smoke/steam comming out.

My thoughts are ive blown a head gasket. Milky in the oil cap but not in the dip stick. Apart from that the valves leak and a new drive belt is in order.

Cheers

Ben

It showed normal. Nothing seemed different about it.

yep its the gasket.. the coolant is leaking though the head gasket and running down the block..
and excessive steam from the exhaust is the coolant seeping into a cyl

Have you checked the engine oil...see if its white/creamy looking??? If so, then coolant is making it into the sump.

Hey there...thanks for the post, I have the exact same problem with my EL Futura. I fill it up every 4-5 days and it seems to be leaking on the exhaust side about cylinder 4 or 5. Will have to get the gasket changed out as soon as :-)

Lucky at the moment as there is no water in the oil!!
