Hi Guys,
My Ef I6 is starting to develop a small leak from the head gasket in the vicinity of number 1 cylinder. No water in the oil and no steam from the exhaust and no noticable water loss. Car runs fine. Question is should I replace the head gasket now and if I do, do you recommend having the head tested? Any advice would be most appriciated. Cheers |

yes, and yes.
The head gasket will only get worse and could leave you stranded or worse damage the engine. While you could very well drive it like it is for 6 months you are going to have to get it fixed anyway so why tempt fate.

I drove mine from melb to sydney and back witha blown head. They could last another 2-3 years or 2-3 hours. I was stupid doing that sort of drive knowing full well what COULD happen.
So yeah, if you suspect it, try to confirm it first, and do ASAP. Mine leaking from 1st cyl right under the intake manifold where its a b**ch to see. And always get head tested. It could have pinhole leaks that will only get better, or even warped which would make changin gasket pointless.
