doing the head gasket tonight
everything's off except the head can't get it up at all it's stuck so tight I can't believe it rubber mallet did nothing 2x4 wood and hammer side to side shifts it a few mm at the front, but that's it any ideas??? help!

timber in the port, and a rubber mallet.
dont forget its on dowels.

ok, "timber in the port" i assume you mean the thermostat port?
can't find any way to get upward pressure on the thing

make sure your lifting it upwards... just making sure.

try putting a lever bar into one of the exhaust ports and lifting upwards gently. Dont put it so far in as to hit the valve with it though

i've given up for tonight will try hammer in exhaust port tomorrow and it was going so well, everything else came off just like a dream...

Make sure you have removed the bolt from the front of the head that holds the top of the timing chain guide in place. Had me stumped for a while.

use a length of chain held in by the rocker gear bolts and use it as a handle helps if you have a crane, also make sure spark plugs are out

And make sure all the head bolts are out.
I've witnessed a drongo in a similar situation as you forget 2 bolts and wondered why the head wasnt moving. |

thanks for all the helpful suggestions
breaker bar in no1 exhaust port did it rang up the engine reconditioner where I got the exchange head & he said this was how they did it, sometimes takes 2 blokes heaving to break the seal now i've just got to put it all together again....... cheers smithy

as richard williams said use an AU gasket and always use new head bolts

yes, new bolts thanks for the checks whilst we're at it the stupid little gasket that sits along the top of the timing cover keep? or trash and replace with 100% silicone thoughts?
