just last week me and my brother in law attempted a head gasket change on my ef, got to about half way taking the head bolts off and one of the f**k got rounded therefore we couldnt get it off, tried everything logical, impact driver, those sockets that dig into rounded bolts, but no go was a damn piss off as we didnt wanna weld near the engine or drill and what not, so in the end we put it all back together and shoved a bottle of "seal up" in the cooling system. and f**k me it was a C*** of a week.

cheers Greg just wondering how exactly are you going to do for $150??? VRS and head bolts, skim the head there goes your $150 then you have coolent and posibly oil. not to mention if you have any burnt valves or seats a head reco can be any thing from $250 to $500 although i do agree 1700 is far to much, should be between $900 and $1250 |

Poor Ratchet!
Actually poor wrist when the ratchet gives, Use a breaker Bar! I found 'ABV' impact sockets are very strong! (14mm) =)

does it really matter if you remove the cam chain as long as the crank dosen't move and the cam sproket is in the correct place

We used a 13mm one and used a sledgehammer to knock it on. then we used the 900mm ABV knuckle bar. Came of really easy. So now that's all i'm using...Impact sockets all the way!

A genuine FORD mechanic said " Hit all the head bolts with a hammer befor trying to remove them" it evidently helps to crack the bolts seal and he also said " Give each bolt a sharp pull on a breaker bar to start them off using only impact sockets"
