You'll need a new inlet manifold gasket, they are normally around 2mm thick - your old one should just about fall off when the inlet is separated from the head, won't need much cleaning up (if any). Exhaust manifold is similar - you can reuse the std metal strip gasket, it might need a slight clean up

Heres something I found very helpful when I changed my head gasket which my uncle told me (he used to fiddle with mustangs when he as in the US) each set of items you take off, put it and its bolts into a plastic bag and label what it is.
I made the mistake of not doing this when pulling apart my whole dash and when it was all back together, there were alot of bolts left over, who would have thought EA's could rattle even more.

To do it properly, you should use new head bolts. Are you getting the cyl head skimmed for straight? Was it leaking coolant? What about corrosion of the head? what about new cyl head alignment dowels (2 of)?
What about new O'rings for the cam chain tensioner? There's more to it than " just change the head gasket", eh?

so right CJH, if you've got the cash, i'd even consider changing the internals to forged for longetivity and even boosted possiblilty, depends on what your after.
This is the condition of my head when I put it back on, it ran well until I sold it but i'm sure down the track it would be causing problems, get it recoed proffessionally.

yeah bought the kit so have new intake and exhaust gaskets, got o-rings for the timing chain tensioner hopefully the head isn't warped as it hasn't overheated yet just noticed it was leaking a bit of coolant,
If it is i can get it machined by a mate for nothing.never heard of needind new dowels guess ill just wing it and hope i don't need em. Cheers for the input and the heads up on parts should go to plan hopefully, got most of it off last night should have it all done by lunch(as long as no machining is requires etc.) |
