Hey all, I have to do the head gasket on my XH. So, any hints or tips?

I believe in the technical documents there is a how to guide
Also are you planning to get the head machined / crack tested etc? But i have noticed lately alot of people are not completely cleaning all of there old gasket of the block causing problems once again |

Cheers AU multi-layer steel gasket (MLS) are known to be more reliable than the stock standard E-series composite type which gave E-series motors their head gasket issues. In saying that, if you thrash the car from cold, an AU MLS gasket could also fail as quickly as a composite. I have an AU MLS gasket in my car, dumped all my coolant down the drag strip and still beat my personal best. This was 3 or 4 years now and the car is still running on that same gasket. There are really no special treatments required, however it is highly recommended that both the head and block surfaces need to be checked to make sure the surfaces are straight and if not, be shaven/decked/straightened. Steel gaskets don't take imperfections lightly...so any imperfections on the mating surface can cause premature failure.
