The head/head gasket has gone on my EL mont ghia
got a quote for replacement head/gasket/valves and all for $2000
or around $1700 for recond and new gasket

If i do opt for a new head, does my car need a tickford head as it is a tickford engine????

any advice on prices, or anything to do with this please post...
AU gasket???

need to get back on the road!!!!

atm i can see fluid weeping/dripping along the head, and was hissing after some heavy driving(when i didnt know it was gone  )
There is no milky color to the oil, and the fluid looks clean

advice advice advice????

they saw you coming. tickford head is about $400 and head gasket is like 100 bucks. any reputable place do head gaskets for like 500-600 i think but i could be wrong.

if they were $2g then thats more than alot of people pay for their e-series lol!

the head repair I had last year from an excellent service was about $1000 with head crack welding.
Find a head specialist to do your work.
I had an engine out, welsh plugs, rear main, new idler pulleys, water pump, injector clean and service, head gasket, head crack welding, coolant flush and service for about $2200 inc GST. hurt but worked!!! very happy and highly recommended in Melb west.

for $2k, along with your reco'd head...you would want to have some monster port work, a polish, some bigger valves and a good cam!
if you are thinking about doing this in the future and have the money, then this is a good time to do it!

The Tickford head has 2mm bigger exhaust valves over the std head.
The going rate for a head gasket job, minor cyl head repairs, valve regrind and clean the head, replace head bolts, etc, is around the $1200 mark, depending on labour rates of course.

thats the smartest reply in the thread.

alot of you need to wake up to your selves and realise that in the real world a quality job costs money

Did my own head gasket 100,000 k's ago on my El Fairmont ghia and cost all up $480. This included the VRS kit, head test and valve stem seals replaced, head bolts, radiator pressure tested and flushed, coolant, oil plus filter. ive heard the average price for a head gasket to be replaced the proper way (including head test/milling is around 1500-1700. Thats not including a reco head.

cheers for the replys, found a bloke recommended by someone on perth e-series...and isnt giving me any s**t 2G worst case scenario

Hes quoting 1300 worst case scenario all labour and parts included.
and if it isnt too bad less than half that price...

Ill prob ask him to fit an AU gasket, as ive heard there better quality.

How much does port and polish cost approx...or shaving the head? for more compression?

we do them at work generally for around the $1700-$2000 mark also. Thats including a radiator internal clean out, new genuine parts/coolant/filters and a head service. I've not seen more then a couple of heads need replacing so it is worth getting yours checked before you replace it.

head came off yesterday, and has been completely recond for around $700.

All up its costing me $1590 for the recond head, radiator flush/new hoses, new gasket and labour

pretty harsh on my wallet, but needs to be done

i say go for an au motor, it will cost less then a new head gasket and will last longer.

Me and 2 of my mates in QLD did my Head Gasket, Took 2 days but Genuine ford Oil, Filter, Plugs, Hoses, Thermostat, Pulley's, AU Gasket, Intake manifold Gasket, Exhaust Manifold Gasket, Head bolts, Timing cover seal, Rocker Cover Seal and a few more bits cost me around $350 from FORD, with a discout due to a Mate working at the ford dealership...
Did the work ourselves, so including some drinks it was around a $400 job and there has been not a single problem with it...
