i have heard it can be a SHORT term fix, and that you must give your cooling system a really good clean afterwards

And this is from a mate of yours!
Chemiweld is a short term bandaid, that will also clog up the core of your radiator. Don't do it! Get the head fixed properly.

If used properly it can work if the hole is not huge. Follow the instructions and it will work.
You must flush the cooling system out after two days ar most. I have used it a few times over the years and it has work every time I have used it. Like the other people have already said it is only a short term fix. The best thing to do is to reco the head or get another head and reco it ready to put on. Mick4l

Chemiweld will also only work in some applications.

i used CHEMI-WELD when i blew my head. ths particular brand is supposed to stay in for 1 week before you flush it, i left mine in for two weeks and did no damage, i used it for about 8monts (until i got my new engine) put more stuff in about once every 2 months.
worked very well, however my head was cracked to the outside so it spat water all over the exhaust manifold, not water in oil etc.)

I used it in my old xf for a while and it worked.
I don't recommend it for a long term fix, cause it won't last.

people love this s**t but dont do it!!! clogs everything 1st year app at work i told not to and do it properly and he did it and it worked 2 weeks later it went real bad and needed radiator rodded out and new water pump and hoses it coated everything
for an ef top end kit is 100 odd dollars and 30 for head bolts and get the head skimmed... if ya burning a bit of oil get the valve stem seals done while your there

Yeah I'd get it fixed properly in a falcon. That said, I used to have a VN commodore a few years back and I blew the head in that, overheated and oil was FULL of water - I drained out about 7 litres of milky "oil" !
I whacked in some chemi-weld and a year later it was still going hard with no cooling system dramas and no leaks or water in the oil.
