personally i got my head from JJM. I ended up getting a full reco 94DT head with cam, bolts, hla's seals, all for $550 (with a few trade ins) If your to port the head... do it to a standard one, there are benefits in doing so. if keeping your head just get it crack tested, surfaced and a quick going over... any local shop should be able to do it for about 200bux I'm using a permaseal head gasket on my falcon, running up to 15 psi boost and over 15,000 ks now I'd have to say they last ok.. But the AU gasket is a better option as it’s a metal shim type. One of the main reasons the gasket blow is because the Alloy head and the cast block expand at different rates. The head gasket been in the middle cops all the movement and it will eventually wear in places and loose it strength. The beauty of the AU gasket is that it is a metal shim, which wont wear like the material gasket do. Its not hard to put the head back on yourself, If you have managed to remove it, that’s half the battle, Like other people have said, get the head checked out and surfaced, while that is been done, make sure you clean the top of the block completely, and also get the head bolt holes/threads completely clean, even go buy a tap and run it through them. It will make a big difference when you torque up the head bolts. Good luck with it all. |
