hi ive searched the forums and i can only find stuff that just relates to what i want but not completly but im looking at doing some headwork to my 3.9. now im not looking at swapping my engine im looking at headwork and thats it. now so far i have a au mls gasket but what would be better getting my head worked or getting a head off a xr6 or getting a tickford head as a base? also what cam should i get for increasing torque because what im looking at getting is as much torque as 3.9ly possible with increasing the power as well?

ive been told an au fpr, au intake, extractors that i will hopefully be getting soon, a j3 chip with a tickford tune and a pair of Thermos to keep it all cool.

i can already see this leading onto other engine work but im not to phased about that as i mostly want advice about the head.

Here are a few reads to start you off:

The EF/early EL Tickford head is probably your best starting point. Basic porting, a skim for increased compression, a multi-angle valve job, and the MLS (AU-style) head gasket, and you should see impressive gains. But you will need to get the engine's breathing sorted at the same time, or the head won't be able to work.

The J3 chip is a definite YES, but after you have done the other major mods, otherwise you will need it re-tuned.

I have a ef el ported head for sale if interested. I has the larger xr6 exhaust valves and xr6 valve springs and a very nice port job. All the head will need is a shave to mate with the new head gasket.
PM ME if interested.
