would anyone out there know whice of these (headers or extractors) would be better for my au 111 xr6, i already have a 2 1/2'' exhaust and a high flow cat, which one would be more beneficial??? cheers

For starters, Headers/Extractors are the same thing, they just have more than one word for it.
Secondly, there is a thread right up the top of this forum that should give you some suggestions. Personally, I would get Pacemakers 4480 (not 4499).

now im cofused, i thought that they were the same but after chatting to a few ppl they have all told me that they are different, has anyone out there got the proven facts that they are the same or different...

More confirmation on headers and extractors... Yes they are the same thing
 . Both items replace the standard cast exhaust manifoldId also advise to go and get the pacmekaer 4480 headers/extractors fitted. Theres 2 different types that Pacemaker make as SpeedyED stated, the 4499's are just a standard set of extractors, used for the purpose of towing etc where you need a little more power. The 4480's are the tuned competition extractors, ideal for street/strip performance and have a slight edge over the 4499's. |

As said, same thing.
Headers normally refers to a stock item, with extractors being the aftermarket replacement, but they really are the same thing. (In my experience) Go for some Pacemakers, either version owns the stock manifold. |

to add to that, upon fitting the extractors/header's, it is definantly worth getting a heat shield if you haven't got one already, Krisisdog has got a group buy happening at the moment for Heat shields.

Well it basically shields the heat that is made by the extractors away from some of the components in the engine bay. One component in particular the brake booster which tends to crack due to excessive heat caused by extractors. I reckon it would cool the engine bay down considerably, extractors do get very hot.
If i had the money and i was still in Australia, id be very keen on getting a heatshield off krisisdog, looks to be well designed and looks the part too. Would definately reduce the temp of my engine bay no thanks to my chrome coated extractors

cheers for all your info peeps... Ive alredy got a heat shield but was gonna pull it off and put on some heat tape, should i stay with the (ugly) guard or go with the tape and is there any or much diff between the two?

Ok now my two cents worth. I personally think that no matter what brand you get for general day to day use you should make sure they have a longer secondary pipe, which is what gives you more lower end torque, cause to be honest how often unless you're want to race on highway or are on a racetrack do you use that high end power.
Brand of choice I go for and I just got them on my car is a set of Genie extractors, they're absolutely amazing.
