Yeah the AU gaslet is a good option. Also make sure to change the head bolts, get the AU bolts. While the head is off get the surface machined or at least checked for straightness, otherwise chances are you will need to redo the head gasket again in a year or so.

the head bolts are all the same from ea to au,,have a look sometime,,but yeah new head bolts,,get it decked only if needed,,when i did mine it was really clean so i didn't have to get it machined..get the radiator cleaned out to,,new thermostat,,check you hoses as well, make sure they are all ok,new rocker cover gasket(the rubber one).
and use anti freeze stuff on the manifold bolts etc,

EA-EL head bolts are torque to yeild therefore can only be used once whereas AU bolts can be reused if needed. |

There is no difference between the EA to AU head bolts. Ford only list one type as do all the other places of purchase. Either way they are cheap enough to throw away and get a new set.

Having bought both EF and AU bolts I can say there is definitely a difference. But yes, if you go to ford and ask for head bolts for an I6 you will be given the new bolts anyway.

there isnt anymore though correct standard EF left - standard AU right Now they use the au bolts for everything. Is worth making sure you dont end up with EF bolts because the AU's are the same price but are stronger (snapped head bolts suck!). Not really a big deal though.
