As the topic suggests.
The right hand side globe doesnt last long before blowing. On the third globe in three months now. Getting a bit axpensive replacing them. Anyone know if there is a self check that can be performed to locate the fault? Or does this sound like something for the Auto Electrician? Cheers. |

Check for looseness inside the headlamp itself.
If its loose, it'll vibrate and kill your globes.

Also, don't touch the glass part of the globe. The acid from your fingers can cause the globes to blow prematurely.
Unfortunately there's no Advanced Medical Institute for prematurely blowing globes. |

think its the oil from your fingers that bouild on the globe and causes the thing to break. i had a run of broken bulbs, on the battery side of my ef, i think it was due to this, as it is tricky to get the lights in when you are doing it quickly without taking the battery out. Try as you might you are still likely to touch the globe if you dont get it in 1st time. try using latex gloves, i'd recommend the unpowdered ones just in case the powder does something to the globes as well, then you wont know wtf is going on.

the actual globe contacts get loose from the heat. I tightened mine up after a simlliar run on globes and it's lasted about 2 years since. The $2.50 austa's at safeway fuel are ok for the price.

I had this on my EL and it turned out to be the relay.

If you haven't put your greasy fingers on the globe or it is not loose, one of the biggest enemies of incandecent lamps is bad electical connections. Check as one person suggested, the relay contacts and the terminals that plug into the back of the globe.
I had terrible trouble with tail and indicator globes blowing in my old XA. One day I sat down and installed a proper earth to each globe and the problem disappeared. Globes lasted years after that. |
