My mates headlights keep switching off in his ED Fairmont, this is a huge problem as we are meant to be driving through the country this weekend. The headlights will be fine for a while but all of a sudden they turn themselves off. High beams will work during this period but the headlights wont.
After switching the headlights off for a while they will work when switched on again but only for a short period of time. Has anyone else had this problem? |

check the relay?
also the fusible link? a previous owner twist and taped a blade fuse holder where the original fusible link was meant to be, took me a while to track down why my headlights were turning on and off and flickering all the time.

I reckon its the circuit breaker. Pretty common. Its found on the left guard near the overflow bottle with 2 wires running out of it. Usually held on with 1 screw.

Also make sure he is using 55w globes. if he is running stronger this will also cause this problem and will have to upgrade to a stronger cct breaker to rectify the issue.

I am hoping its just a relay.. where is this fusable link you mentioned? it's not my car so i don't really know where everything is.
Hopefully its not the circuit breaker and thanks for the tip on the 55w globes. I will play around with things tomorrow and see how we go. Thanks for your help guys, Mark. |

Agree on circut breaker under the coolant tank, works fine when cold, but when it heats up, it cut's of lights, this normally happens if you put 100W bulbs in the car or add driving lights without there own relay and power ...
Laticia.
