I have a 95 fairlane and over the past few years it started drinking water. i put it down to it leaking water into one of the cylinders. I put some bars leak into it a few times which slowed down the water loss. About 1 month ago i changed the head gasket and saw where the gasket was letting water into the now very clean cylinder. All is good now except that the heater is not really getting hot like it should. I figure that i have clogged up the little heater radiator under the dash with all the bars leak i have used. I have tried using some radiator cleaner but that hasnt worked. So what next? can a radiator guy put some pressure through the system to clean out the crap? how hard is it to get that heater core out? cheers guys.

I would first check the heater tap is opening under vacuum, then I would check too see if the blend door is opening under the dash.

I you can get your hands on the heater hoses at the firewall with engine at operating temp, check to make sure both hoses are hot. If only 1 is hot you either have a blockage in the heater core or the heater tap is stuffed. If both are hot and still not heat in the cabin its the blend door servo.

have you ever drained all the coolant out? because i know in the heads you CAN get air in them - hence heater not working right ..

You will notice the temp guage drop a little bit when the thermostat opens.
when was it last replaced? its easy to chuck a new one in. but the problem might not be that. |

I don't think its that thermostat it was replaced. Any other locations or problem areas that can affect the heating?
