There's an o-ring that seals between the pipe and housing. I had a lot of trouble removing one from an old engine as it had rusted in place. You may have to remove the thermostat housing as well.

What would i need to ask the shop for? is there a specific name for the o-ring?

Just ask for the oring that fits into the thermostat housing for the heater pipe.
Go to ford or take the old O ring to bearings wholesalers or similar and see if they can give you a replacement. I have successfully used copper max sealant to stop a leak there before too but O rings are cheap and look a lot better. |

Its a bit of a coincedance. if you follow that pipe it goes into a T piece and has a smaller bypass hose running of it. That hose on my car has died and at the moment have the whole inlet manifold undone just to change it! Can't do it any other way.

Assuming your EF is a 1998 model. Then that would make your car almost 10 years old.
Have you had new pipes put in before? If not, I suggest you get a whole new pipe and seals. That is, assuming you plan to keep your car.

Go to ford for the O ring.

Heater bypass, should not need a new pipe. There is another bolt holding it in place around half way down the motor.

So goto Ford for an "O Ring" and its an easy replacement right? Undo bolts well two bolts one thats on the Termostat housing and the other thats like what you said holding the pipe in place.

This is on the todo list for the missus EL it is a simple case of an O ring and a little bit of silicone.

Just opened it today.
I need a new pipe or another one now because the bit where it goes into the thermostat housing is rooted. and the o ring is like a real hard plastic type thing, is the o ring suppose to be like a soft rubber? well it now hard like plastic. Bought a new o ring from Ford for $3. It looks a lot different since the old one is gone hard like plastic. Well now im going to have to go down to the wreckers and get a better heater pipe.

If those pipes look like that...imagine what the welsh plugs, other bypass pipe looks like??????????
Do the hoses have heaps of rust stuck to them????...do the hoses feel "crunchy" when you squeeze them?????

be well worth spending the dollars and getting new pipes and do your job properly .. you don't want it leaking straight again after all your work, and/or over heating while driving - that will cost you a lot more coin and a lot of pride
