Does anyone have a solution to the falcon's heavy clutch action? My falcon (EL) feels like your pushing a lead weight? I've replaced the clutch cable and i've installed a new peddle box but the action is still very heavy.
Has anybody else had this problem and if so what have you done to fix it (if any). Are there any aftermarket parts or items which will help give a smoother lighter action? It seems like this problem doesn't just apply to the E-series as i've felt an AU and BA clutch and they all seem very heavy. Any words of advice? |

Yeah I had my pedal box and clutch replaced and even then it was still stiff, I am thinking of changing the cable soon to see if that will ease it up abit...!
Whats the price of the cable these days...?? |

I've been in both an AU and BA and the clutches in both were fairly light. They were both XR8's too.

BA's use a hydraulic clutch so that would be why they are easier, au is still cable so who knows, mine is really heavy as well and is teh reason that pedal boxes snap etc. a hydralic clutch convertion would be ure bes bet wouldnt be cheap though |

yeah heavy clutch cracked my firewall,if its not cable i'd say your pressure plate has gone if it wasn't heavy from when you bought it?if so its probably a heavy duty clutch.

i thought the falcon clutches were tame compaired to some, i had a 6 cyl cordy with a toploader, heavy duty clutch kit and the clutch was hydrolic, it was like pushing the brake peddel to the floor. anyways if you have replaced the pedal box and cable it should be smooth and easy even if it does have a heavy duty clutch kit , i would maybe check the route that the cable is running is correct cos any sharp or forced bends in the cable will make it hard

Also check that the cable is correctly adjusted, so that you have that easy spot at the bottom of the pedal travel. My XE had a toploader and an 11" HD clutch it it was fkn heavy. Pulled the box out to fit a weak 6 cyl clutch, and turned out the wanker that put the clutch in had used the wrong release bearing (Long type) for the clutch, which had long fingers. The release bearing was under constant load from the pressure plate.
Try rerouting the cable, also try lubing the liner up with some form of lubricant... Wet stuff..?

I've seen some car's with hydraulically assisted clutches, they have a small booster about 1/3rd the size of the brake booster. I just dont know how to fit it to a Ford yet, I'll be doing some mucking around early next year to try make it work.

The other day i cut away the firewall padding and found that the firewall wall has a rather large crack. I made up a large plate to spread the load on the firewall but the wall is still moving. I've got going into a panel beaters on monday so i'll see if this is the cause of the heavy clutch.
I'll keep you guys posted. |
