Ok so I've just changed the head on my ed xr6
It has an EL tickford head with a wade 1521a @112 double valve springs, port and polish, multi angle valve seats, vernier cam gear
EL ecu and BBM with a custom pre programmed j3 chip

It hunts at idle and stalls quite a lot. So I cleaned the j3 port. Made a difference. Idled a lot easier. Still stalled under load of alternator when thermos kick in.

Took it for a drive. Has no power whatsoever! Felt like the timing was way out. I did have to rotate the dizzy for the serp belt to work. But I thought I set it correctly. Went and got the timing light and I was 10 degrees out. I set it for tdc not 10 btdc. So changed that. Idles better again but still no power!

So I thought the vernier might of slipped but nope hasn't moved.

I've run out of ideas?

Thanks. Callum.

I reckon you'll have to check your cam timing, and go from there ( ignition timing, base idle reset, etc ).

I just set the vernier to 0 because I don't have the gauge to measure its lift. Base idle is set.

I wired up an ice ignition coil from the loom but it didn't work because I only took the positive to the coil and then earthed it straight to the block. Didn't work so I put back the normal coil and it worked.

Could it be That?

Sorry Bro.... But this is a start from the beggining. I.E. Take out the dizzy take off the cam chain.... And begin from the start. I.E. No 1 TDC..... Etc Etc Etc You might trip into your error on the way out, pulling it down. But I doubt you will notice. The Cam is a dog arrangment , but ur adjustable vernier timing setup, negates this. I think you willl need an old fashioned wheel. You know with the painted degrees to attach to the crank ?????. I could be wrong. But it sounds like thats where ur at. Especially with ur adjustable dog, cam timing.... Does that make sense to you. Regards Daz.

The whole motor has been retimed. I just set the cam to factory. The mechanical timing of everything is right. Maybe the cam needs more lift but I can't measure it.

Hey Whoa there son.... U are absolutely certain that everything is spot on. And it s a Wade , or Crow or webb... You know what I mean, "Comercial"camshaft.... And its running like a dog. I.E. No ponies....And You think it needs "More Lift". Ya gotta slow up a bit here. Ya got the cart before the horse... When you say no ponies. Is that in relation to a standard car.... Or No ponies, like no ponies.... flat... weak as the proverbial... If its a commercial cam, the problem wont be more lift... I think ya gonna need to talk to someone a bit more savvy.... I dont think your gonna be able to get the answers here. Im happy to help best I can... BUT number 1.... Is it timed right...No doubt.. no question... not even the possibility of it being wrong. you are absolutely certain. Regards Daz

The car runs and drives. Just has no power. I'm 100% the motor is timed correctly because I put a new timing chain kit in.

However it has improved! It's a bit quicker and doesn't feel as flat. But still slow. The standard motor pulled harder

Define no power? Are you talking about no low end power? You do realise the Wade 1521a cam was designed for the mid-high RPM range? I'd hazard a guess and say that cam won't start pulling till around 3000rpm give or take a couple hundred RPM. How does it feel at higher rev's?

Yeh but mate, you already said that you put a vernier type adjustable timing gear set up on the car. What did you use to reference this. You put a new timing chain kit in ?????..... I dont like to give it to you the way I see it, but honestly. You need to start from the beggining, with a timing wheel, dizzy out, chain off.... The very beggining.... Im not saying I dont believe you. I think your being tricked into a false sence of security. As for electric wizardry, Tickford six, is the man to ask on here. But if the timing is wrong. Your toast. Feel flattest up high. Feels ok down low

There are 3 point to time in the motor. Tdc. Crank and aux gear line up and cam mark sits 3 degrees above the head on the right hand side. They are all correct.

Timing has been set to 10 degrees btdc
J3 does it from there

Was it in diagnostics mode when you set the base timing?

OK....you didn't mention it was an auto.....I looked at it in the Garage section.....rule of thumb with an auto for cam timing....advance the cam timing...this will give it more torque out of the hole.
With the ignition coil, you wired it up wrong, thats why it didn't work.....and you didn't say if you had the unit to go with it....which makes it work better.

It's a manual
I asked when I got the chip if I had to advance the timing and I was told to set it to factory the chip will take care of it

And it's and I've ignition 4200 race coil
