a couple years back i paid $138 for a new one at coventrys.
it does sound like it's gone dead, mine did it just as i was leaving work, and when i had a look there was a nice big split in the plastic. i used a bit of tape/glue to get me home, then got a new one.
its a piece of piss to replace too.

i know the booster is dead, if the pedal gets really hard to push down, and you get a hissing noise when you step on the brakes, its definitely a f**k booster

I just replaced the brake booster in my EL the prices I had were as follows

$178 from AutoPro
$206 from Ford
$300 from Repco

$340 for a reco one

I went with the genuine article, to change it you just need to undo the brake resevoir form the brake booster (unclip the brake lines along the fire wall will let you move it far enough away), undo the 2 sets of wires going to the master cylinder. Undo the 2 bolts under the dash, and unclip the brakepedal from the shaft. then head back into the engine bay and remove brake booster.

Of course its the same thing but in reverse to put it all back together :)

Oh yeah almost forgot There may be cruise control switch on the brake pedal, dont forget to put it back on and in the right position

more then likely it has cracked. it's only made of plastic and the constaint heating up and cooling down causes them to crack

nothing wrong with driving it untill you get it fixed, just remember that you have to brake a LOT earlier and with more force than you used to.....

best to get it replaced immediately though
