Hi everyone,
i have a problem with my ef fairmont ghia and would love a bit of advice. the problem is that sometimes while driving if i stop at lights or something like that my oil pressure guage on the cluster goes very low and starts beeping. if i take off or accelerate it goes back up. when i check the oil it is on full. i know that low oil pressure is bad so what is the problem and what can i do? any help would be great. thanks guys. |

Oil either to Thin EG Wrong Grade.
Most Likley the oil pump is getting tired. How Many KMS on the engine. My car has 205,000 KMS and runs 5w - 50 oil with no problems. |

More than likey the Oil sender is out of tolerance/faulty.
Even the cluster itself can be the cause, add another earth strap to the engine/chassis and it may help you. These engines are pretty robust, and very low oil pressure is rare. Replace the oil, oil filter and oil sender and you'll get change from $100 and it might fix it. Also check for oil/dirt on the contacts of the sender unit.

hi, it seems that most replies point towards the sender. where is the sender located and can i do it myself? also is there any chance it could be the oil pressure switch or should i try the sender first.
thanks |

The oil pressure sender is the 'switch' its labeled Sender because its a Variable sending unit.
A switch is for basic 'idiot' lights, IE: No Gauge. The sender/switch is located in the middle of the Engine on the LHS. You'll require a LONG 27mm Deep impact socket. The sender is Plastic and any Sideways movement will f**k it.

When it's idling and the motor is cold is the pressure low? Mine drops down at idle when the motor is up to temp bit never makes beeps or lights come on.
You might be able to measure the terminal voltages on the sender, this could clear the cluster at least. Sender, Engine or Oil. |
