ive got a 98 falcon running on gas. i bought it at the beggining of this year. when i got the car it use to start fine but now i have notice that it is taking longer and longer to start the car. it is cranking over but seems like there is no gas in the lines to start the car. seems like it has to wait till the gas comes out from the gas tank. i think there is a leak somewhere. but not sure. basicly it soon wont start. also cold weather affects how long it will take a little bit.
has this ever happen to anyone before? has anyone have any clue what it could be? any advice will be helpfully. as i have no clue.

Do you run it on petrol once in a while?
Might be injectors clogging or someething. |

the system should start on petrol then automaticly switch to gas, i would say that your injectors need cleaning.

I have a similar problem on my XH XR6. After getting some advice, and looking at the car it would appear that it is trying to start on both petrol and gas at the same time, thus flooding.
When it happens havve someone stand at the back of your car and see if there is a puff of black smoke. If so it is duel fueling at start, and probably needs the control box adjusted or replaced. IF it doesn't happen all the time then it is not the injectors. If it happens when the car is hot, then it is most likely duel fueling. Good luck and let us know what you/they find. |

This was the same problem I had on my EA. Auto petrol start was removed, no more duel fueling. Car started beautifully on gas or petrol.

sorry forgot to say its running on straight gas only NOT duel fuel.
as my car was an ex taxi.

Petrol companies put wax in their LPG. The cheaper the LPG, the worse the quality. This wax clogs up the converter, reduces power and makes it harder to start cold. I should say that the petrol companies used to put wax in the LPG. I'm not sure about now.
I'd say your converter just needs an overhaul or a replacement unit for about $200.... well, that's what my last converter cost new and that was 3 weeks ago. |

From my experience check the elbows into the converter, if there clogged then your not getting sufficent water in to vapourise the gas and it will take longer to spark. Best to have metal copper ones rather than plastic !! When its running just check that the in + out hoses are hot otherwise the thermo may also need some looking at.

alternatively, drive down to Liverpool and see Joe @ Crescent Motorsports and get him to sort out and tune your gas properly..

Might be the LPG filter it could be that cloged up that its not getting that much fuel into the engine thus causing the poor starting. Might also be a Spark plug problem as well, i know when i changed the plugs over the car started better on LPG.

He's definately VERY experienced and has tuned my car fro sometime now and also helped plenty of other fordmods members and will also provide a fordmods discount.
i wouldnt take my car to anyone else to get tuned (gas wise) |
