Hi ppl, just need some help, i have Put an El Xr6 head and wade stage 2 cam on my Eb 4L.now the timing has not changed as i cable-tied the timing chain to the cam gear. it had band new oil, oil filter and plugs. ignition leads r on correctly, runs rough still and blows heaps of black smoke which i believe is oil problem.
what could this be? what can i do to try diagnose the problem? i will need instructions. cheers sean

did u just throw the cam straight in? or have you tuned it and adjusted the TPS voltage? also what Wade cam is it?
black smoke is a sign of running rich.

Get on to Jason from T.I Performance, tell him all the details of your motor, cam grind number ect and he'll make you up a chip to correct the overfueling issues ect.

Check to see all vacuum lines are connected. And make sure the map is still connected too.

if you cable tied the cam gear you obviously didn't install a vernier gear...
and you didn't time the cam shaft? You might have had to move that gear 1 tooth either way in the chain... These things have to be timed to the crank and depending on the cam grind it could be anywhere... The specs sheet that cam with it will give you a lift at top centre on intake on number 1 cyl... This sort of thing is not a straight swap over... you must check timing... and I second that smoke is too much fuel... because its not time it could have backfired and blown the guts out of the map sensor, as when these fail over fuelling is common... You need to get a diagnostic scanner on it to check the sensors and make sure they are in range...

i was told the cam was a wade stage 2, but i found it wierd wen the cam said 94da so i thought it was a regrind, maybe its just a std cam in an xr6 head, the cam was given to me out of a f**k bottom end

if it is a regrind did you fit the extra shims, or was the rocker gear off it supplied that had extra shims?
It almost sounds like a map to me... But you must have killed it for a reason... I'd be pulling it back to bits and getting the wade number out of it emailing wade saying I have this cam, what size shims do I need (then check what is in it) and can you guys send a spec sheet on where to dial it in... Take it too Ford and them to plug their CAM tester on it and see if the map is s**t itself, or alternatively if you have a spare try that...

Cam grind stamp is usually at the end of the cam which the camshaft sprocket is held onto. If you can remove it and have a squizz at that, then everyone will know just a little bit more about this cam. Also check that the vacuum hose at the map sensor isn't split. it may be connected, but if it has a split, you might as well not have it connected. When you took the camshaft sprocket off, did you reset the timing chain tensioner?

The '94DA' is just a standard marking on the cam from Ford, it's got nothing to do with the profile ground on the cam if it has been ground by Wade
As Phongus suggested, check the end of the camshaft where it bolts to the cam sprocket/gear. If, it has been reground, the company who did the grind will have either stamped or engraved their company name and grind number in this place. Something like this: Attachment:
