Can someone please identify the part in the pic below? It's part of the wiring loom that connects to the coil on my XG. Pictured next to a 5c coin. What is it? What does it do?

Interesting. This plug thingo is about 10cm from the coil on the same wire that goes to the coil. Don't know how it would have something to do with auto, but hey.
I was thinking a sort of a noise suppressor, but there's one near the coil with another seperate single wire to it. |

Probably the tacho resistor - what's written on it ???
Measure it, it's probably 1.3 kohms.

There's nothing written/staped on it snap, not a thing. Your XH and EF might have it there too. Might be part of the Ford I6 EA-ED-EL and XG-XH utes distributor and coil set up. It's taped over with electrical tape, so not easy to see.

its for the igniton coil circuit and when they are worn out you will keep blowing coils
its a one way diode so the computer dosent get feed back from the coil and burn out its internal circuit

Easy enough to tell if it is a diode or a resistor.

I thought they were diodes, there's a couple in the engine bay of a EA-ED falcon. I'd have to look up the wiring diagram to be sure tho....
Cheers ToranaGuy

Yeah, found another similar looking item near the relays in the engine bay. It's on the loom to the relays with electrical tape around it. At least this one has some markings / symbols on it.
its a one way diode so the computer dosent get feed back from the coil and burn out its internal circuitSo far, this looks to be the most likely answer. |
