i can't figure out why everyone says ea's are slow when their the lightest e series around. if you boys think it's all in the cubes then go buy a v8. piss all over a 6 from the factory...
then start doin both up n see dollar for dollar where you stand in the performance stakes. ea's are big performers with little outlay, providing their not a cfi, even so all thats needed are mpfi conversions whjere are cheap as chips these days. exaust cai n cam will see you blowing off 90% of the other 9.74423 million falcons on the road.

low-ryda your right there, although personally why waste the money doing a 6, when there is v8 power there. the ea's are easy to mod though. And it s**t me when ppl have a go at EA's, they not all bad.
Back on topic, before doing anything learn to drive, learn to handle the car with respect, then do the suspension, lowering with proper springs not cut, shocks and swaybars. then (based on MPFI) do your extractors and exhaust, then air induction with an xh snorkel and sports filter, this will help her breathe better, the ea's came with the biggest pipe from the airbox to the TB, dont touch it. Then its time for a cam, depending on the cam a new chip and/or tune may be required. You should now be pushing resonable figures at the wheels. Gearbox (personally a manual) and the cam are big questions if you intend on forced induction, the 6's handle turbos with 6-9psi nicely without needing to strengthen the bottom end. |

yea in my experiance nothing Major goes wrong with them, but most of them are home to a family of gemlins especilly the early series 1 EA, but as above with power modding, exhaust and cam hould be your first stop, EA's love a cam upgrade.

in my persnol opinion a ea is not worth spending much money on and the engine must be very old and tired by now so its not worth modding up.
if i were you first ild put in a ef engine should set you back the same amount a decent exhaust + extractors would. you would notice a great amount of peformance from that and even more relibility. then ild go a manual gearbox or lsd.

why go EF ? coil pack ?
at least go EL, dizzy and u can use the EL ecu for BBM upgrade and thermo fans. How many K's you car done ? auto 3speed/4speed or manual ? personally i would do a MPFI upgrade, Extractors/exhaust, CAM and XH snorkel with good quality filter. should set you back around $1000 if u do the work yourself. |

Welcome, Kenwood Maverick gave some good advice which is worth listening to.
I would also suggest a good manual and start by checking braking system, are the discs worn, when was fluid changed and the early e series put heaps of crap into the brake lines through the hand brake mechanism. How much is left on the pads? A cheap vernier caliper will pay for itself. Suspension, are the shackles (rear springs) in good nick, are the rubbers good, what condition are the shocks in. If you start with brakes then you wont crash into things due to brake failure. Suspension check will stop axle hop during burnouts and hold the thing on the road through bends and while braking. Get insurance, if only TTP! Get used to smart a*** remarks about your ride as not all on this forum had to struggle to get their first car, mine was an Austin A40 bought for 10 Pounds. Ask Questions, it's the only way to know. Good luck and driving and remember the hoon laws! Grumbles

you wanna be able to do good skids..... Just do 1 mod 4.11's in the diff....
thats all that kills these auto's i bolted them into mine and in my opinion flogs manual, certainly does off the mark! (these autos have 2 long first and second gear) my user gallery gives an example of my setup and easily smoking it hehehe If you want a nice motor... with the prices of engines these days go straight to the AU motor... they go for about $500 now days and are basically bullet proof. Require VERY little to fit in...
