Ok i have a 97 EL falcon with 6cy. i want to upgrade the motor. it is about to die. What i want to do is upgrade to either the xr6 or xr8 motor. i would prefer the xr8 motor just for the simple reason of the extra power. but is there much performance difference between the xr6 and standard 6cyl motors in the EL's. also does anyone no anywhere in the eastern suburbs of melb that would do with conversion to an xr8 motor. and does all the programin of the BA ecu? any help would be much appreciated.

The only difference between the standard 6 motors and the xr6 motors is that the xr6 have more aggressive cam. So its only a couple of kw more i think... or the same.
Standard: 157kW @ 4900rpm, 357Nm @ 3000rpm-3000rpm Xr6: 164kW @ 5000rpm, 366Nm @ 3150rpm-3150rpm Think the tickford engine is a little more powerful then the xr6, maybe like 2 kw more... just guessing. Why u want to know about programing a ba ecu? i dont get ya there mate.

the xr6 tickford engine also had stronger valve springs and higher compression, there is not much diference in the power of the 6 and 8, performance parts are probly available cheaper with the 6, and is also supposedly a better engine, maybe a little bias here
depends really what the car is being used for...

depends really what the car is being used for... Biggest differences between XR6/tickford motor and standard are the different headcastings (better port design) and the bigger exhaust valve. Thats where the extra power comes from. Chris from wade said recently he'd had a tickford cam on the cam doctor, and it was identical to a standard one, others have said only slight valve timing changes.

if i was to drop in the xr6 motor. does anything need to be changed or modified? eg. engine mounts, gear box, ecu?

nope, the only differences with the tickford engine to the standard i6 is the head, so basically the rest of the engine is the same, well besides the fuel regulator, and a xr6 ecu would give you possibly a tad more power, coz of the tune they have

dude its not worth the effort of going tickford cause if u get a rebuild of your engine which includes the recon of the head, your engine will be better than a tickford one anyways

ye you could always get a standard i6 engine with low kays, in good condition, and whack a tickford head on it, if you really wanted the small power increase, of what 7kw's
