G'day everyone, I am going to buy a new coil and leads this week and I was wondering if it would be possible to mount the coil up behind the airbox on the shock tower? Also if anyone can suggest a good coil to put on it. It is a EL 6 cylinder.
Any help would be great, Thanks. :)

Stock coil is fine for most applications.

If you want to avoid mounting it against the block, on the shock tower, or cable tied somewhere under the inlet manifold will suffice.

i have run one on the strut tower, in behind the airbox with no dramas just have to lengthen the coil plug from under the manifold and get a longer lead to run from the coil to the dizzy and away you go, make sure it gets a good earth i found that caused a few dramas

i found that if the metal "legs" of the coil didnt have a clean earth, that it ran a bit rough, only take a few extra minutes to make sure it has a good earth anyway

what does the plug on the coil do ??

ive moved it but it's hard trying to get the the plug to make it longer

anyone know if you can buy those plugs with cable on them to extend it ??

and what type of cable is it alright to extend it with ,figure 8 speaker cable ok ??

it's not a high current plug i dont think ,just there to send signals to it

i wouldn't use normal speaker wire, something more like whats in there, 3 or 4mm wire.
you can buy the plugs from bosch also.

one wire is for the tacho and one wire is for power, so one of those wires should show up 12v when the ignition is in the run position, if not theres something between the coil/ignition barrel gone wrong, if u got power there then yea myabe the distributor, put a sparkplug lead on the coil and a screwdriver in it, hold the insulated ends and put the bare metal part over one of the rocker bolts, and get a friend to crank it over, if it sparks then the coil is working and you have a problem in the dizzy, maybe the rotor button or the cap is all gungy might help to give it a cleanup
